The charming location among many lakes and forests, unspoiled air, rich history and interesting culture brings more tourists to Szczytno each year. The city is most renowned for its Teutonic Knights castle (according to Sienkiewicz’s prose, a place where Danusia, the daughter of Jurand of Spychowo, was being held captive), Police College and the nearby international airport ‘Szczytno-Szymany’.
Szczytno provides a great range of active forms of recreation and sports during both summer and winter. Tourists can use : the civic sports centre which rents out sail-boats, canoes, boats and pedaloes; H. Wagner Sports and Show Arena build in 2005 with volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, two modern bowling alleys, fitness centre with massage and sunbathing services, ice-skating ring during winter; Police College’s sports facilities including in-door swimming pool, sauna, hot-tubs, tennis courts, shooting range and gym.
The city has also much to offer in the cultural sphere; the tourists can browse from the wide range of activities prepared by the civic cultural centre, civic library, Museum of Mazury and the local cultural organizations as well as the local pubs. The shows gathering the biggest audiences are : Kresy Days (festivities dedicated to eastern provinces’ culture), Mazury Fair, Kurpie Culture Day, Mazury Jazz Night, Rock Festival ‘HUNTER FEST’, Szczytno Days and Szczytno Nights with the main attraction - a concert dedicated to the memory of Polish rock legend - Krzysztof Klencz (Czerwone Gitary, Trzy Korony).
With the expanding accommodation and gastronomy services the city offers many ways to spend holidays available for every budget.
