Every summer the vicinity of the town of Bartoszyce is inhabited by huge numbers of storks. A place which is particularly popular with the species is Żywkowo, a village located just near the Russian border. The population of storks equals the population of people, the number of stork nests amounts to 40. Slightly fewer storks occupy the village of Lwowiec, where the roof of the beautiful old Gothic church itself is a home to as many as 9 stork nests. Varmia and Masuria are a special place on the map of storks’ travels. The region is inhabited by 12% of the whole European population of storks. Old technology lovers will find something interesting in Górowo Iławeckie, namely the Gasworks Museum, seated in a former gas station. Those who admire splendid architecture will love the sight of the Gothic church and the Lidzbark Gate in Bartoszyce, as well as the palaces and manor houses in Osieka and Galiny.
